ROBERT C. ANDERSON
Photography
Robert c. Anderson is a native Chicagoan and retired educator with the
Chicago Public Schools. He first bought
a camera while stationed in Vietnam in 1969-70.
That experience may have sparked his interest in the unflinching
boldness of daily reality in urban environments. Although he has shot pictures
sporadically since that time, he took up the camera again since
retirement. He also has studied
traditional African drumming (Malinke) and recently
added the soprano saxophone. Robert also
enjoys metal sculpture, primarily by using found materials. He believes that all these areas of
expression feed one another in a positive way.
An untrained photographer, Robert has spent
considerable time photographing the nit and grit of the city. He has primarily focused on capturing the
commonplace, forgotten, and neglected structures and artifacts that define the Chicago urban landscape, revealing their beauty, nobility and
starkness.
